My Masters Degree thesis involved nearly a year of research
into the effectiveness of
test metrics to measuring the
usability
of
website homepages; knowledge that I have applied commercially, and
in the design and production of
www.j31.co.uk.
I have also had the benefit of 3 day
QBit
'testing
web functionality, usability and compatibility' training course
(click

for brief details), and have been creating non web based online help and computer based training
systems for over 20 years.
As such I can supply a 'fresh eyes' assessment of your website or application
workflow, i.e. outside of the design and production team, and before it goes
live on the 'net, or in the case of an application, before it is released.
I can carry out such tests at any stage of the website or software production
cycle as a part of your QA team, or as a final 'sanity check' before a site
goes live, or a software release CD is cut.
Why is this important? To quote usability guru Jakob Nielsen:
"
Usability [used to be]
a secondary consideration in the computer industry because customers were not
faced with the consequences [of poor usability] until after they had paid for
the product. The situation is the reverse on the web. Users experience a site's
usability from the very first moment they consider doing business with a company.
J Nielsen, Designing Web Usability, 2001."
